"The
Kagyu E-Vam Buddhist Institute in Melbourne is indeed now one of the most
progressive centers in Australia. Offering seminars on 'East-West psychology'
and wider social and ecological issues..... Despite its contemporary orientation,
the Institute has not lost touch with its tradition."
Excerpt from 'History of Buddhism in Australia',
Paul Croucher, News South Wales University Press, 1989, p114.
E-Vam Institute is a dynamic and vibrant Buddhist
centre that has been established in Melbourne for more than 20 years.
We offer meditation instruction,
courses, retreats and conferences
on various aspects of the Buddhist tradition from the perspectives of
the main denominations available in the world today. We invite you to
participate in this rich program.
Visiting Teachers
E-Vam Buddhist Institute is hosting two distinguished lamas from Tibet for at least a year.
Lama Drupen Khyowu is a three-year retreat master from Traleg Rinpoche’s Thrangu Monastery. He is guiding the eight retreatants who are currently undertaking a six month period of inner Vajrayogini practices. This is their eighth year of undertaking the traditional three-year retreat in 3 or 6 month blocks each year.
Khenpo Jamyang Lodro studied at college under the guidance of Khenpo Jigmed Phuntsog in Golog. Khenpo also taught at the Thrangu Monastery shedra (monastic college) for three years. Khenpo will be giving public talks during his stay at E-Vam Institute.

Donations
Donations – your support is always welcome
Traleg Rinpoche and E-Vam Institute’s members welcome
your support – both in the form of donations and through regular
support such as pledges, membership or voluntary work.
Through your support E-Vam Institute has been able to
provide a rich program of introductory and advanced courses to the public.
Buddhism is flourishing in Australia and E-Vam Institute is proud to be
a part of this growth.
Your donations and voluntary support have helped to develop
a city centre in the central location of North Carlton, and a country
retreat centre(Maitripa Contemplative Centre - Healesville) an hours drive
from the CBD in the foothills of the Yarra Ranges. In addition to a full
program hosted by E-Vam Institute, both these centres have been made available
to other contemplative groups.
In recent years the upgrade of both these facilities has
been a priority - a gradual transformation seen by many students over
the years and includes the following:
- internal renovations, expansion of the main meditation
hall and painting at Carlton
- external landscaping at Carlton
- internal and external painting at Maitripa Contemplative
Centre
- renovation of both meditation halls and the toilet
facilities at Maitripa Contemplative centre
- extensive landscaping of the oval at Maitripa Contemplative
Centre.
The main focus for development in the next few years
is building a new Temple for Multi-Faith Gatherings
at Maitripa Contemplative Centre. In addition, we are supporting monks
at Trangu Monastery in Tibet.
Donations over $2 are tax deductible.
Cheques should be made payable to the K.E.B.I
Building Fund and can be posted to the Melbourne
office.
